There are over 50 lakh agricultural pumps installed in various villages in India. About 25 percent of the total installed capacity of Electrical Energy is utilized by these pumps. If 10 percent of energy can be saved in the pumps, there will be enormous saving for the country. This can be achieved in anumber of ways, some of these are discussed in this paper. By improving effeciency of pumps, energy can be saved. Energy can also saved by proper choise of pumps and their correct installation. Proper chise of foot valves and bends for the pumps are also importante. Above all, proper education of the users i.e. the farmers in the selection, installation and choice of accesories like foot valve and bends etc. for the pump is very important..
