March, 1974

BV No.122

During the cretaceous, Honduras and Nicaragua received shelf deposits derived from an underlying series of Paleozoic and Precambrian schist's and acidic intrusive rocks. Rocks deposited in the cretaceous trench are exposed on the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica. The area shoaled in late cretaceous as the ancestral connection between North and South America developing forming a shelf on which limestone's, shale's and sands were deposited in Nicaragua.
