The general geology of the block is of south west-dipping Tertiary rocks along the coastal strip. Inland, these are overlain uncomformably by fairly flat-lying quaternary volcanic rocks. The strip of exposed tertiary rocks is roughly ten to 20 kilometers wide perpendicular to the coast.
