Analysis of grid emission factors for the electricity sector in Caribbean Countries

2015

As part of their capacity development efforts to promote mitigation actions, the UNEP DTU Partnership, together with the UNFCCC Regional Collaborating Centre in the Caribbean, UNDP and OLADE, agreed to collaborate with Caribbean countries willing to update or establish their grid emission factors by undertaking a study to calculate standardized grid emission factors (GEF) for sixteen independent nations or groups of countries in the Caribbean region as a basis to the further identification of mitigation activities such as CDM PoAs or any other market-related instrument to be approved by the UNFCCC. The study analyses the following topics: a) Status of the calculation and adoption of grid emission factors for each country in the region. b) Characteristics of electricity generation units in the different Caribbean countries. c) Application of the CDM methodological tool for calculating a standardized grid emission factor for countries with generation units with similar characteristics
