Biofuel Technology Handbook

2008

---

This comprehensive handbook was created by the Biofuel Marketplace Consortium which aims to promote biofuel technologies, raise awareness, disseminate research findings and help to reduce European dependency on conventional fuels. The aim of this handbook is to contribute to diminishing existing barriers to the broad use of biofuels by informing politicians, decision makers, biofuel traders and all other relevant stakeholders about state-of-the-art biofuels and related technologies. The first section covers: biomass potential, biofuel policies and the biofuel life cycle. The second section gives detailed descriptions of the large variety of feedstock types and conversion technologies, including both first and second generation biofuels: bioethanol, biodiesel, pure plant oil, and biomethane; and BtLfuels (biomass-to-liquid fuels), biohydrogen and bioethanol from ligno-cellulose. The third section discusses the future of biofuels: first versus second generation options, integrated refining concepts and strategies for new vehicle technologies. This is a brilliant resource for those involved in policy making, enabling them to make informed decisions with regard to alternative fuels such as biofuels. [www.iee-library.eu]
