Workshop on materials science and the physics of non-conventional energy sources.

1987

6.3-48 R.1089

The radiative properties of our ambience are discussed and used to introduce spectral selectivity as a means for achieving energy efficiency. Three topics, related to spectral selectrivity, are discussed in some detail: Window coatings, with static properties, for solar control and for giving low thermal emittance; Materials for smart windows, characterized by their ability to regulate the throughput of radiant energy; and surface treatments for efficient photothermal conversion.
