Trigeneration has, until rercently, been used exclusively for air conditioned sistems with small or moderate capacities. However, wit more recent chiller packages providing larger capacities, and with modern cogeneration apllications, trigeneration is now open to a wider range of process aplications. It can provide tremendous hydrocarbon processing industry opportunities for more economical use of energy. Cogeneration is the most widely use technique for producing heat and power. If refrigeration is also produced from the same energy source, then the cogeneration simply becomes trigeneration. The technique is not new, it is commonly used in district heating and cooling schemes. However, trigeneration is being used more in oil and gas, and petrochemical industries as threeproducts-heat,power and refrigeration- are frecuently needde in many modern process.
