The pilot plant in Manzanares, Spain, has demonstrated the technical feasability of electricity generation with Solar Chimney Power Plants. Electrical power output is a function of global irradiation, but also depends on meteorological and environmental conditions. All physical processes are now well understood and were incorporate into a computer simulation model. Monthly and annual mean electrical power output can thus be predicted for large-scale plants in any climate. The costs of electricity generation with a large Solar Chimney Power Plant of 120 MW nominal power (34 MW annual mean) are estimated to be about 0.11 US$/KW for a location in Spain. Biomass production in the collector of a Solar Chimmey Power Plant provides and additional energy source by solar energy conversion. Productivity of selected biomass crops is expected to be higher than under natural conditions due to the favourable micro-climate of the collector and the possibility for root irrigation, hence making 100. ABSTRACT. of the natural precipitation plant available. Specially designed Solar Chimney for water desalination by condensation of vapour saturated collector air inside the chimney are being investigated.. INTRODUCTION. THE PILOT PLANT IN MANZANARES.
