Two experimental set-ups were mounted in the wind tunnels at both the E.T.S.I. Industriales and E.T.S.I. Aeronáuticos of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, to reproduce two different incident wind conditions on wind turbines. One of them corresponds to uniform incident wind velocity and the other one to a logarithm wind profile corresponding to the surface layer of the atmospheric boundary layer under neutral conditions, both of them giving uniform turbulent kinetic energy. The wind turbine was simulated by both a porous disk and a two blades rotor. The velocity and turbulent kinetic energy were measured by hot wire anemometers, and the drag force over the disk by a strain gage balance. The conditions of the uniform wind case correspond to those of the kinematic theories developed by other authors, and the incident logarithm velocity profile caseis treated by a numerical model presented in a companion paper. In the present paper the experiments are described, and the corresponding results are presented. The comparison with theoretical results is made in the companion paper.. ABSTRACT. INTRODUCTION.
