Transport of heat between two solids takes place through interface which introduce large amount of thermal resistance, thus reducing overall efficiency of the system. This paper first surveys the work done on contact thermal resistance done by various workers so far, both theoretical and experimental. Emperical analysis done by most workers so far, is seen to apply to specific situations only. Here more fundamental approach taking into account basic properties of two contacting materials providing micro-heat paths and resistances to heat flow is taken as the guideline for analysis of the work. Effect of pressure and environment on contact-thermal resistance is brought out particularly for relarively poor conductors of heat ie Silicon, Germanium and Glass. Contact thermal resistance is seen pressure dependent and change of enrironment from air to Helium shows a significant influence of fluid conductance on overall heat transfer. This effect is seen very pronounced and abnormal for glass particularly at low pressure. INTRODUCTION. THEORY. EXPERIMENT. ANALYSIS RESULTS AND CONCLUSION. REFERENCES.
