Dealing with the energy concepts, specially searching for the new and more reliable sources other than the nuclear power and fossil fuels means saving the mankind from disappearance, bringing them happiness and prosperity and letting them to live in brotherhood and equality on our beautiful planet. Effective exploitation of the solar power looks to be the most confident, externally existing and clean, and decisive way to cope with such a challenging problem. Among the various approaches to utilization of solar radiant energy, photoelectrochemical devices as a means for the production of storable hydrogen fuel and/or generation of power through photo-decomposition of water is particulary discussed. Preliminary results obtained with the single crystal and polycrystalline electrodes together with the preparation and characterization of the starting materials necessary for the electrodes of use in such devices, are presented. Problems and prospects of the spectral sensitization and photogalvanic effect (cells) have been dealt with. Some new methods for the preparation of the starting materials and to modify the metallic and semiconducting electrodes useful in the optical energy conversion devices have been introduced..
