A review of the hydrogen-hydride systems and applications is presented in this paper to illustrate the many roles of hydrogen as the ultimate energy carrier. In the hydrogen-hydride system, hydrogen plays the role as a unique synthetic fuel with unusual properties and characteristics not shared by other fuels. It compliments the unconventional primary energy sources and presents them to the consumer in a convenient form; it is relatively inespensive to produce; it can be converted to various energy forms at the consumer end with higher efficiencies than possible with other fuels; it is renewable; and it is the lightest and cleanest fuel. It can be used in every application where we are using fossil fuels today, including to meet the energy requirements of human settlements, such as cooking, water and space heating, cooling and refrigeration, lighting, power farm implements and transportation, and electricity generation. In all these applications, it is superior to convencional fuels and other synthetic alternatives. ABSTRACT. INTRODUCTION. FOSSIL FUELS THEIR LIABILITIES.
