Pyrolysis of a Gardanne coal was studied in a crossing-fixed bed reactor with an inert gas flow. Range of temperature was such that no tar decomposition occured (below 600 oC. Experimental results concerned flow rate evolution of light gases : CO2, CO, H2, CH4, C2H6, C2H4, C3H8, C3H6. Varing temperature, flow rate evolutions were related to bed thickness and granulometry. Isothermal experiments gave time-flow rate relation for different values of temperature and granulometry. These results were compared to those obtained with other coals (Freyming, Ermelo) studied in our laboratory. Discussion aimed to define physico-chemical processes during low temperature pyrolysis of coals. INTRODUCTION. EXPERIMENTAL. Coal. Reactor. RESULTS. Mass loss and gases release with increasing temperature. Granulometry. Bed thickness. Isothermal evolution. CONCLUSION. BIBLIOGRAPHY.
