At present, research in the field of anaerobic digestion is orientated to the development of so-called high rate digesters. In these, by means of a special design, high volumes of influent per digester volume unit are obtained, with the consequent cost reduction of the process. The application of high rate digesters (anaerobic filter, fixed film and fluidised bed) to the biomethanation of olive oil mill wastewaters is studied. Until now, using this wastewaters with COD of 50 g/L, biogas production of 20 m3/m3 wastewaters, and reductions of 75. ABSTRACT. in the influent COD have been obtained, working with hydraulic residence times of 6 days. INTRODUCTION. EXPERIMENTAL. Digester. Startup. Support. RESULTS.
