The application of the microprocessers technology for the control of the anaerobic digestion could be great importance in the use of such process in several agricultural exploitations. In the latter, the raw material (waste) and the products can be used in situ with the expected economy in the transport costs. In order to automatize the measurements and control systems, a simple computer has been selected, which has a lenght of word of 8 bits, and a memory capacity of 64 kbits. The computer has a also simple microprocesser which allows the development of programs able to perform datalogger, control and decision duties, as well as its use in real time. The advantages of this system are the following: -Possibility of monitoring the anaerobic process in a non-steady-state, -Easy re-programming, with access to direct controls (feed intervals, frecuency of data gathering), -Possibility of transfer the control system to users mode, which will allow the process of the accumulated data using the same computer, -reduction of indicators and panels costs by means of the graphic capabilities of the microcomputer. The elements which allow the operation, monitoring and control of anaerobic digestion processes performed at small scale have been designed and built. The elements of the interface needed to connect the commercial low cost sensors and the own designed actuators to one of the cheapest domestic computers in the market have been also developed, as well as the accesories for the operation of that interface and the safety of the system.
