Alcohol stillage derived from sugar beet molasses contains about 100 g dry matter per liter, 80. ABSTRACT. of it is organic matter. This one may be transformed in biogas trough anaerobic fermentation. In this work the production conditions of volatil fatty acids from vinasse are studied in a fixed-film reactor. Their operator conditions are 30oC and pH of 6.5-6.8. The profit of VFA is as such acids of their later conversion in single cell protein -s.c.p.- or in biogas. The composition of VFA produced at 1.1 h hydraulic retention time is: butyric acid 74. INTRODUCTION. ; acetic acid 23. MATERIALS AND METHODS. ; and propionic acid 3. Raw material. . The acid composition is different at 8 h HRT: butyric 56. Inoculum. ; acetic acid 35. Analytical methods. ; and propionic acid 9. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. . The productivity of VFA is 63-70 Kg.m-3.d-1 in continuous process. The yield of VFA on the organic matter of this substrate is 70. Raw material characteristics. at 8 h HRT. Performance of the acids reactors. Acid composition of the effluent. Energetic yield. REFERENCES.
