Growth and lipid content of several supposed lipid-rich microalgae species were determined for laboratory cultures. The chemical composition of the lipid extracts was analysed for four species selected on the ground of a high lipid production. For three of these species, the lipid extracts were chiefly composed of triacylglycerols appears as very close of the one found in edible oils. For the fourth species, Botryococcus braunii, the chemical structure of their lipids chiefly composed, following the strain, of hydrocarbons or alcohols, led to distinguish two races. The growth of these two races was investigated at a pilot scale. Two methods were experimented : continuous cultures in a tubular photo-reactor and outdoor batch cultures. For the first one, problems related to light-limited growth, temperature regulation, culture unstability and contaminations by other algae species were encountered. FOR A RACE. FOR B RACE. Culture conditions. CONCLUSION. REFERENCES.
