This is an overview of the biomass potential and utilization in Turkey. The levels of fuelwood utilization together with other agricultural and animal wastes are compared with the commercial energy use within the country's global energy balance. The possibilities of increasing the fuelwood production by the aid of afforestation programmes and substitution for commercial fuels are discussed. Facilities in biogas utilization in the rural regions are reviewed emphasizing its possible contribution to the global energy consumption in the country. ABSTRACT. INTRODUCTION.
