Integrated production of food, fuel and fibre is practiced in many parts of the world. It could be a particularly useful approach in the EEC to cushion the social and economic effects of withdrawing land from surplus agricultural production. There are a number of environmental benefits to be gained from mixtures of different species and types of crops, and it is likely that overall yield can be sustained. Productive types of natural vegetation can be used in these mixed systems, alongside conventional crops. ABSTRACT. INTRODUCTION. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPLICATIONS OF ENERGY CROP PRODUCTION.
