The growing gap between annual fuelwood production and demand in many Sudano-Sahelian zone countries, parts of the Indian sub-continent, the Middle East and South America calls for the development of alternative fuel choices in addition to aggressive programs of agroforestry and silvipastoralism to increase fuelwood supply. The report outlines the potential for the conversion of surplus crop residues from large-scale commercial agriculture into fuels for household and industry use. The report presents case studies on briquetting cereal, cotton crop and copra processing to generate surplus coconuts biomass fuels for power generation and industry. The potential to use these residual fuels in open fires and traditional stoves and the probability of consumer acceptance is now the subject of several UNDP/World Bank-sponsored field tests in Addis Ababa. INTRODUCTION. A REVIEW OF AGRICULTURAL RESIDUE FUEL PRODUCTION POTENTIAL ON ETHIOPIAN STATE FARMS. HOUSEHOLD AND INDUSTRIAL FUELS FROM COFFEE RESIDUES IN ETHIOPIA.
