In the last years awareness has been rapidly growing of the damage that human activities can provoke in terms of degradation of the earth's environment and of change in the basic equilibriums of nature. With regard to the phenomena of atmospheric pollution, an important responsability is attributable the activity of energy conversion of fossil resources. Some industrial activities, which are caracterized as energy intensive, also determine a particulary important environmental impact. Energy savings projects in these industries, and in the activities of energy conversion, can contribute in a significant way to reducing environmental degradation. Important results have already been achieved. Other even greater results can be obtained for the future, gradually as the development of technologies and the increase in awareness of the importance of the phenomenon will encourage implementation. Considerations are made in this report relative to the steel, chemical, electromechanical and electric power production sectors, also citing examples of concrete applications.. INTRODUCTION.
