The operationally efficeient use of daylighting will result in reducing the need for additional lighting. At least temporarily, the rated illuminance required for task lighting may be covered entirely or partially by using daylight-controlled lighting system. Particularly in administration and office buildings. As the power consumption of most luminaires directly influences the thermal and energetic balance of space, natural lighting has some indirect impact on a building's thermal and energetic performance. The SUPERLINK program is a design tool for predicting-as early as in the planning stage- the interaction between a building, its use, daylight supplies, its artificial lighting concept and the overall effect this is likely to have on its thermal and energetic performance. SUPERLINK will predict resultant dynamic heating resp. cooling energy balances of buildings supplied with daylighting, the impact of natural lighting on the building's temperature behaviour as well as cost-effectiveness of daylighting systems, lighting installations and lighting consoles..
