The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)- a non-profit organization that offers research and developments services to over 700 electric utility members-recently introduced five powerful computer applications to help lighting professionals and utility representatives design, audit, and evaluate lighting systems. Because lighting accounts for as much as 35 percent of commercial consummed electricity, widespread use of these tools will significantly increase the energy effectiveness of commercial buildings. To guide potential users, this paper presents an overview of the five programs: LightCAD, the Light Rebate Entry Program (LREP), the Building Energy Estimation Module (BEEM), LightPAD, and COMTECH. LIGHTCAD 2.0. Introduction. Database. Drawing. Code cheching. Hardware and software requirements. LIGHTING REBATE ENTRY PROGRAM (LREP). Introduction. Rebates. Hardware and software requirements. BUILDING ENERGY ESTIMATION MODULE (BEEM). Introduction. LightCAD with BEEM. LIGHTPAD 2.0. Introduction. Auditing. The Database Editor. LightPAD files COMTECH 3.0. Hardware and software requirements. COMTECH 3.0. Evaluating lighting systems. Interactions with heating and cooling loads. Reviewing results. Hardware requirements. SUMMARY.
