Lighting installations were strongly affected by the illmanaged economic activity of the 60's, 70's and 80's in this country. Cities plunged in darckness were an every day reality, endangering the inhabitants activities. The paper is a critical analysis of the public lighting installation of a Romanian large city : the equipment, design, control, road safety and maintenance. Some recommendations are made, inspired by the CIE reports and by the literature on public lighting, with technical and economic aspects raised by this restructuring. Thus, the paper is useful to those interesed in making joint efforts for renewing the technology of a vast field of human activity. ABSTRACT. INTRODUCTION. ACTUAL SITUATION. Lamps. Luminaires.
