Natural daylight is a major passive energy source and to use it effectively, its availability should be known, this takes the form of daylight availability investigations. To enhance the use of passive means in Nigeria. This study investigate and models the daylight resource available in Nigeria. The aim being to generate models and database for daylighting design and building energy simulation; these are based on daylight measurements by the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute. To this end, regression analysis and statistical procedures employed to determine the available illumination from the unobstructed sky and the frequency of occurence of daylight are discussed. The results show a seasonal variation in the values of the mean global illuminances, while for 80. SEASONAL DAYLIGHT AVAILABILITY MODEL IN NIGERIA. of the working year, 29 kilolux mean global illuminance is exceeded. INTRODUCTION. DATA USED AND THEIR MEASUREMENT. THE SEASONS IN NIGERIA. ANALYSIS OF GLOBAL ILLUMINANCE ACCORDING TO SEASONS. PERCENTAGE AVAILABILITY OF GLOBAL ILLUMINANCE. CONCLUSION. REFERENCES.
