Claims and Facts on Jatropha curcas L.
2007
---
This report aims to evaluate the expectations of productivity of J. curcas as an oil crop under different conditions by reviewing literature, integrated with the findings of the FACT expert seminar Jatropha curcas L. Agronomy and Genetics, held in Wageningen from 26-28 March 2007 (Daey Ouwens et al., 2007). It has become clear that the positive claims on J. curcas are numerous, but that only few of them can be scientifically sustained (Daey Ouwens et al., 2007). The claims hat have led to the popularity of the crop, are based on the incorrect combination of positive characteristics, which are not necessarily present in all J. curcas accessions, and have certainly not been proven beyond doubt in combination with its oil production. Hard figures and verifiable data on various aspects of J. curcas remain scarce, and here, the latest and most important scientifically sound information is included. [Extractos, pp. 4-5]
