This study provides a technical basis for the selection and prioritization of areas and sites with potentially outstanding biodiversity values for world heritage nomination. It first asseses the current coverage of biogeographic regions and global biodiversity conservation priorities in the 156 biodiversity world heritage sites and identifies broad gaps.
