This study addresses the potential for the application of cogeneration technologies in the ecuadorian palm oil industry. It defines cogeneration and discusses its advantages and disadvantages, it describes some important aspects, including a review of the implementation of cogeneration programs in the palm oil industry. By presenting an overview of cogeneration technologies and experience this study attempts to provide owners, energy planers, and stakeholders in general with a foundation in when to make decisions regarding the implementation of cogeneration projects.
