National inventory of sources and sinks of greenhouse gases in Costa Rica : final report

In June, 1992, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 155 countries signed a framework convention on climate change, which main objective was to attain the stabilization of greenhouse effect gases concentrations in the atmosphere. Costa Rica ratified the convention on June 13, 1994 and as part of its compromise this first inventory of emissions of greenhouse effect gases in the country was implemented. The inventory includes six gases : carbon dioxide, carbon monixide, nitrous oxide, methane, nitrogen oxides, and non methane volite organic compounds, in five economic activities areas : energy, industrial processing, agriculture, changes in land usage and forestry and waste management.
