Lignite or brown coal is a solid fuel with low calorific value, high moisture content and usually a high content of sulphur and ash. Because of these characteristics, lignite is consumed locally and is not active in the international fuel trade. Its main application has been the generation of electricity. The aim of this publication is to present key information about the latest clean and efficient lignite combustion technologies.
