The key elements in the current global warming scenario are critically reviewed. Apart from the observation that carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere have increased from 275 ppmv in 1800 to about 353 ppmv today, there is little that bears close scrutiny. The emissions scenarios adopted generally appear to be excessive, but predicting development over centuriesis, in any event questionable.
