Techniques referred to as load management have begun to play an important role in shaping the patterns of electricity consumption in industrialized countries. Along with pricing, a variety of hardware is used to control loads directly and save on energy and peak capacity. This study reviews the state-of-the-art of these so called hard techniques in light of recent technological advances.
