In power plants and petroleum refineries, water is of exceptional importance, only second to fuel. In most refineries, for instance, the rate of water consumtion equals the rate of refinery feed. Approximately, 70 percent of this water will turn into wastewater, containing oily, soluble inorganic, organic, and suspended matter. In order to alleviate water shortage, and prevent environmental pollution, wastewater treatment units have been, or are being installed on the iranian refineries. These units will make possible the re - use of refineries wastewater either in cooling towers, or as irrigation water.
