The optimization of the use of bagasse in the cogeneration systems of Guyana sugar industry

This study examines the feasibility of optimizing bagasse utilization in the cogeneration systems of Guyana sugar industry. It is based on and has its genesis in the country's energy policy, and uses arguments of strategic environmental management scholars and practitioners to justify the implementation process. The environmental, micro and macro economic impacts are investigated and analysed. The findings are, cogeneration is one of the major environmental technologies that protects the environment while stimulating economic growth, enhances the competitivieness of the sugar industry by reducing operational cost, and increased use of bagasse thought improved efficiency.
