Concerned over the developing energy crisis, a small group at the Los Alamos scientific laboratory worked for 2 years on the development of a practical, yet economical and environmentally acceptable, method of extracting thermal energy from the numerous regions of the earth's crust constaining hot but essentially dry rock at moderate depths. Temperatures in excess of 160ºC at depths less than 6 km appear to be suitable for present development...
