Methane can be produced through fermentation of microalgaebiomass. Large quantitiesof freshwater algal biomass could be produced as byponds algae are grown on the nutrients present in sewage to provide the oxygen required for waste treatment. Present technologies of algae harvesting from such ponds are too expresive for methane production. The most economical methods of algae harvesting are straining and sedimentation .
