El biogás generado en rellenos sanitarios producto de la descomposición de los residuos, al ser una fuente ERNC, puede ser una alternativa importante para la generación de energía eléctrica limpia y la disminución de la huella de carbono en la matriz energética nacional. Chile tiene un número significativo de rellenos sanitarios operativos, los cuales reciben un 78% de los RSU recolectados. Sin embargo, el país tiene solo 4 plantas de energía eléctrica a partir de biogás de relleno sanitario, las que aportan aproximadamente 45 MW al SEN. Estas representan un 56% del total de residuos dispuestos en rellenos sanitarios. Esta información resalta un considerable potencial de generación de energía eléctrica inexplorado en el país, al no existir valorización del biogás generado por un 44% de los RSU. Es importante determinar este potencial a nivel nacional con el fin de proporcionar información al gobierno, investigadores o empresas, en relación con el uso de este biogás. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de esta investigación es evaluar el potencial de generación de energía eléctrica a partir del biogás disponible en los rellenos sanitarios a nivel nacional. || The biogas generated in sanitary landfills as a result of the decomposition of waste, being an NCRE source, can be an important alternative for the generation of clean electric power and the reduction of the carbon footprint in the national energy matrix. Chile has a significant number of operational sanitary landfills, which receive 78% of the MSW collected. However, the country has only 4 power plants from landfill biogas, which contribute approximately 45 MW to the SEN. These represent 56% of the total waste disposed in landfills. This information highlights a considerable potential for generating unexplored electric power in the country, as there is no valuation of biogas generated by 44% of the MSW. It is important to determine this potential at the national level in order to provide information to the government, researchers or companies, regarding the use of this biogas. Therefore, the objective of this research is to evaluate the potential of electric power generation from biogas available in landfills nationwide.
