An institutional repository is an information system that collects, preserves, disseminates and gives access to the intellectual and academic production of different communities. For the creation of a repository, its administration, policies, standards and software must be taken into account. But the implementation is not enough, constant strategies must be devised to keep it updated and new. These strategies should be directed to the aspects of content, visibility and additional tools. The Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica has more than 15 years of experience in the development of its institutional repository, RepositorioTEC, and the purpose of this article is to share the knowledge learned during these years.
