Located on the Caribbean margin of Nicaragua, the Miskito Basin covers an area of 45,000kms. This region has undergone hydrocarbon exploration by different oil companies, mostly over the continental shelf, with scattered efforts onshore. Over 20,000kms of seimic reflection data have been shot and 26 exploratory wellss were drilled between 1943 and 1977.
