Inversiones Kresco S.A., SME type, dedicated to civil engineering services, was created in
order to meet the demand in the construction area, meeting the highest standards of quality and
delivery time to satisfy customers.
In recent years, the company has been growing exponentially, however, the high demand for
service has caused non-organic growth on it, which has led management to make decisions about
projects that negatively affecting the working capital of the company and compromising at
certainly times its operation.
The company has set itself the objective of implementing a strategic plan with a term of 5
years; however, it lacks a model that allows selecting projects according to the strategic plan and
the operational capacity of the organization.
Therefore, this research proposes a model of selection and prioritization of projects that allows
it to guarantee the proposed strategic plan.
Between the phases to propose this model, it was necessary to review the best practices of the
industry and academia, in order to identify the best model that approximates the requirements for
the company, making a comparative analysis between the current situation and the best practices,
with the purpose of identifying the gaps that will serve as a basis for the development of the
proposed model.
Depending on gaps identifications and studies of existing models, it may been identified as the
best option, adapting to the requirements of the company is the model of the Bible and Bivins, by
a practical application of the PMI standard (Project Management Institute).
The proposed model responds the requirements of the company, guaranteeing flexibility and
continuity on its operation with a high probability of success time to time after its implementation
and non-type of resistance to change occurs through the organization.
