Synthetic dyes pose risks to the environment and human health, which is why natural pigments are raised using biotechnological techniques. M. citrifolia is a plant known for its ability to synthesize anthraquinones, used as a natural red dye. The objective of this project was to evaluate the scaling process of Morinda citrifolia cell suspensions in 7 liters agitated tank type bioreactor for the production of anthraquinones. In addition, the effect of sodium hydroxide as elicitor, both a flask level and a bioreactor, has been evaluated. A maximum biomass growth of 10,51 g / L was obtained in 20 days of culture, with 9,89 mg EAG / g of lyophilized extract. In cell suspensions, the highest accumulation of phenolic compounds (4,38 mg EAG / g of lyophilized extract) was obtained with pH 11, with a production increase of 92,02%, in bioreactors it was possible to increase The production of 2,0 mg EAG / g of lyophilized extract at 3,52 mg EAG / g of lyophilized extract, after 6 hours of eliciting. By means of High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), it was determined that 6 hours after elicitation, the highest concentration and intensity of compounds were presented. Mass were also performed, where the presence of anthraquinones such as alizarin, antragalol, purpurin, rubiadine, sorajidiol and munjistin, were determined.
Differences between pre and post elicitation treatments suggest that sodium hydroxide had an inducing
