Proyecto de Graduación (Licenciatura en Ingeniería en Mantenimiento Industrial) Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica, Escuela de Ingeniería en Mantenimiento Industrial, 2016.
This report details the implemented procedure to design a water supply and
distribution network to provide hydrants at the headquarters of the Technological
Institute of Costa Rica. The project includes the detection of the strategic points for
installation of hydrants, the selection of hydraulic equipment required to satisfy the
specifications demanded by the Fire Department of Costa Rica to fight fires and
the sizing of the whole pipe work and relevant accessories required by the system.
Besides, the volume and location of the water storage tank is established, the
plans for viewing the different locations of the distribution of hydrants proposed are
generated and the materials and labor required to execute the project are valued.
As the final part, the project focuses on establishing the necessary maintenance
routines to periodically monitor the correct functioning of the whole hydrants
system designed.
The design criteria used have as main reference point the international regulations
NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and national regulations such as the
Technical Ordinances by the Fire Department of Costa Rica. Also for the
realization of the planes, considerations established by the CFIA (Federated
Association of Engineers and Architects) were taken into account. The project is
developed in the Engineering Office of the Technological Institute of Costa Rica
and it has the supervision of an industrial adviser and a professor guide
Oficina de Ingeniería del Tecnológico de Costa Rica.
