To deploy structural use of the wood it’s necessary to know the efforts of this material in the face of loads in civilian use. The objective of this work is to determinate the vertical and horizontal displacement for two types of diaphragm of wood of Hieronyma alchorneoides and Gmelina arborea in two types of connection, nails and screws. Displacement occurred in vertically and horizontally to make the statistical comparison and calibration of the model. It was found that the species H. alchorneoides presented the physical-mechanical properties and efforts allowable design above the wood of G. arborea. In addition, the diaphragm of wall assemblies H. alchorneoides with screws presented the significantly higher values of load in the limit proportional and maximum load, as well as the highest relationship load-displacement, horizontally and vertically, due to the best characteristics of the wood of this species compared with G. arborea and the screw element of union. This type of diaphragm had the lowest percentage of calibration. It’s concluded that on the mechanical behavior of a wall, the one factor that most influences is the type of connection (nails or screws) and not so much the type of wood. It’s also important to carry out further studies using stiff joins to determine most marked differences between the species.
