The implementation of this technique was performed in the Maintenance Hangar of AERIS Holding Costa Rica, manager of the Juan Santamaria International Airport, to improve the organization and a save physical space. AERIS agreed to open its doors to optimize the Hangar and improve the quality of the Department through the implementation of this project. The Maintenance Department had no formal procedures, neither defined storage and work areas. In these areas there are a large number of items that were no longer useful. Those items don’t allow the development of normal work activities, also due to excessive time for materials searching. The general objective of this project is to improve the organization of the physical space of the Maintenance Hangar by applying the 5S technique. Within the development of the methodology of 5S, an analysis of the current situation of the company is performed to determine the conditions of working in the Hangar. In the first chapter the problem and the generalities of the site under study are shown. The second chapter is about the theoretical investigation of the 5S and what are the benefits provides for improving the business organization. The third chapter is focused on the description of the Hangar, gathering information and analyzing the situation of the Department. Chapter four corresponds to the design of the 5S program by implementing the strategy of continuous improvement. In Chapter five, the results obtained are presented. In Chapter six, the economic analysis is shown to visualize the profitability of the implementation of the methodology of 5S at Maintenance Hangar. In the last chapter the conclusions and recommendations are shown.
