Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common malignancy in the liver and its incidence has doubled in the last 40 years, placing it as the fifth most common tumor in the world. Despite the use of different methods of diagnosis and treatment of this disease, none has proven completely effective and are applicable only if the disease is diagnosed in its early stages. Knowledge of the expression levels of genes involved in the development of this cancer could bring new alternatives for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of this disease, which is why the aim of this study was to determine expression level of cMET and cIAP genes, in Rattus norvegicus liver tissue with and without neoplasm. Using the technique of reaction Polymerase Chain in real time (qPCR), we found that the expression of both genes cIAP and cMET decreased in neoplastic samples compared to samples not affected. We also analyzed the expression of these genes in samples with neoplastic formations but treated with an anti-tumor agent. The latter showed an increase in gene expression cMET unlike the cIAP gene, which decreased its expression. Because the number of samples used was small, no statistical analysis was possible. However, these results do not coincide with those expected theoretically.
