The information in this report was compiled to provide the reader with an overview of the issues related to the use of lead antiknock additives in gasoline. Much of the data in this present literature on the health effects of lead and lead levels in the environment are derived from studies carried out in Europe and North America and may not necessarily relate to current lead levels and environmental conditions found in the developing countries. The report reviews the information that exists to provide a guideline for understanding the benefits and risks of the use of lead antiknock additives in gasoline. It will be of particular value to those involved in the decision-making process concerning the future of lead antiknock additives in gasoline..
