The textural changes of several coals of different rank, produced during THF extraction have been studied. Four coals, from lignite to antharacite, were treated with THF at the boiling point, during different periods of time. The results obtained show that: apparent surface area (S CO2), total pore volume (VT) and open porosity (P. ABSTRACT. ) increase with the above extraction. On the other hand, the corresponding extracts were fractionated according to their solubility in: n-hexane, benzene and pyridine, which allowed to obtain the oils, asphaltenes and preasphaltenes fractions respectively. The percentages of oils decrease when decreasing the coal rank, increasing at the same time, the percentages of asphaltenes. IR and 1H-NMR spectra of oils indicated the aliphatic nature of this fraction, as well as the presence of ether and ester groups. In the asphaltenes fractions the presence of non-saturated compounds (aromatic and/or ethilenid) is more significative than in the oils ones. To obtain a better separation, the SESC method was also followed. INTRODUCTION. EXPERIMENTAL. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. BIBLIOGRAPHY.
